Dr. Ritu Singh was born into a middle-class, cultured family. She has been interested in painting, dance, and music since childhood. Despite not having a musical background, she chose music. She completed her Master’s (M.Mus.) in Sitar with a first-class degree from the Instrumental Department of the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Her research work was completed under the able guidance of Professor Birendra Nath Mishra at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She has been continuously pursuing the formal teaching of classical music and sitar under the guidance of her musical guru, Professor Rajesh Shah, a renowned sitar player from Kashi and former Dean of the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts and Head of the Instrumental Department at Banaras Hindu University. She has an equal passion for both the practical and the theoretical aspects of music. She served as a regular Senior Assistant Professor (Head of Music Department) at Kamala Arya Kanya Postgraduate College, Mirzapur. Currently, she is discharging the responsibility of the post of Principal of Kamala Arya Kanya Postgraduate College, Mirzapur. Numerous music research articles have been published in various newspapers of the country and abroad and in national and international journals.
